Task D - System technology
Task D deals with the system technology and will give a survey on the different ways of integrating the apparatus in the system of heat sources and sinks (integration of heat rejection, air/ground- heat sources, efficient burners) and different control strategies. Some systems will be identified as typical for a given application and compared exemplarily by simulation.
WP 1 - System design
Within WP1 typical system layouts
(generic systems) will be evaluated and illustrated by a matrix. For
all components the relevant technical and energetic values will be
collected, they will provide the basis for the system simulations.
Additionally auxiliary power requirements will be summarized and evaluated with focus on energy efficiency of the whole system.
The dimensioning, which is different for small scale and large
scale systems, will be discussed with focus on planning. (Is it
possible to dimension whole systems as one product or is more detailed
dimensioning necessary? The installation of a component database will
be discussed among the participants.
WP 2 - Integration
The idea of WP 2 is the detailed
analysis of ways to integrate thermally driven heat pumps into
buildings and industrial processes.
The Focus should be led on different control strategies (do’s and
don’t's; user interface?), distance between supply and conversion
(space, pipe losses, etc.) and regulatory frameworks (noise, etc.).
As a result a validation of the influence of the “integration
factor” on the total energy performance would be very helpful for
planning. If this can be done by evaluation of real plants or by
simulation has to be discussed within the workgroup.
WP 3 - Simulation
The work of WP3 will deals with
simulation. First a list of available tools (engineering versus
scientific tools) will be summarized. A few tools will be evaluated by
cross – simulations.
The complexity and volume of simulations will be discussed by the
participants. Supposable are simulation studies for most important
applications, climatic regions and regulatory frameworks. The
simulations should be coordinated with Task B/ WP4 which is dealing
with the comparison of different systems.
On system level, cooperation with IEA SHC task 32 and 38 and others is important.
WP 4 - Demonstration
The demonstration systems should be published in research journals.
Task D - deliverables
- Overview on generic systems
- Description of tools available for performance evaluation of thermally driven heat pump systems on the Annex 34 internet webpage.
- A developed or identified tool for the sizing of thermally driven systems and calculating of their energy and economic performances.
- Good practice guide for system design
